When I first started creating this angel, I was imagining it to be what angels are usually depicted as: bright, happy, etc. However, after I identified my concentration theme, destruction, I decided to make it the opposite - dark and sad. When I started painting, I quickly realized that not everything on the angel could be black, so I used various shades of grey to accent the details on the angel, with the most obvious being the wings and ground. I also put streaks of light grey in the hair and dark grey in the creases of the dress, but those are less prominent. This piece took awhile to finish because I had to keep repainting over things since I kept changing the color shades. In regards to the theme, the angel represents the destruction of happiness. The wings are black because they are symbolic of darkness overtaking the light (hence the little white left), and the skin is a pale grey to show the cold feeling felt when deprived of joy.
