Wood burning is something that I had never tried before this piece, but I enjoyed it a lot. It is a fairly simple process, but the time it takes to complete one project depends on the amount of detail it contains; this project probably took me about five hours to complete up to the burning point. First, I had to cut a piece of wood to be burnt and sketch out my pattern, which was inspired by sakura blossoms. After I completed both of those tasks, I traced the design on top of transfer paper, which put the pattern on the wood. Then, I used a thin wood burning tip to etch the design into the wood. I decided to paint it later because I thought it would add to the project, but instead of painting the flowers realistically, I decided to use a traditional Japanese technique of art which creates semi-3D objects while still in 2-D.
